Resource: Toolkit for Building the Investment Case for Ending Violence Against Children.

The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children has recently published a toolkit for sectors working to end violence against children. It demonstrates the significant social and economic returns that can be achieved by strengthening investments in cross-sectoral services for children and their caregivers. It supports advocacy to place child protection and well-being high on the political agenda, and to ensure it is embedded in national and local development plans. Read it here.

Call for papers: Violence Prevention edition of South African Crime Quarterly.

The South African Crime Quarterly is excited to announce the return to a quarterly publication model in 2025. We invite scholars, practitioners and policymakers to contribute to the upcoming editions. SA Crime Quarterly publishes research articles, case notes on recent court judgements, interviews on topical issues in criminology and public policy, and book reviews.

The September edition is dedicated to theory, research, policy and practice related to the prevention of violence.

We welcome articles that:

  • Present the findings from research on interventions, programmes and practices that reduce inter-personal violence
  • Explore and critically engage with the theories, assumptions and frameworks applied in the field of violence prevention
  • Evaluate or critically reflect on programming, practices and policies to address violence.

This edition locates itself within a growing body of intellectual and policy engagement with violence prevention in the global south.

Webinar recording: Social Media: A powerful tool for building peace in Somalia

Social media is not just a communication tool, it’s a potential force for peace. In partnership with Gargaar, Research and Development Organization (GREDO), Tales of Turning hosted a powerful webinar titled “Social Media: A Powerful Tool for Building Peace in Somalia”.

Co-facilitated by Mohamud Mohamed Ahmed and Jenna-Lee Strugnell, both Rotary Peace Fellows at Bahçeşehir University in Türkiye, the session explored how digital dialogue and data analysis can support grassroots peace building across Somalia.

Key highlights from the webinar included:

  • How to harness social media listening tools for peace building and countering misinformation

  •  The role of Somali youth who make up 75% of the population as digital peace builders

  • Using networks of change-makers to amplify local peace messaging

  •  Practical examples of how dialogue facilitation (both online and offline) supports reconciliation and social cohesion

With over 100 registrations from around the world, the event affirmed the growing interest in scalable, community-led digital peace building models for fragile contexts like Somalia. Watch the recording here.

Resource: Child Nutrition and the Climate Crisis Framework for Action
