Resource: Report of the 20th Violence Prevention Forum Meeting
In 2024, research by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) revealed that while many people enjoyed the relationship-building and collaboration at VPF meetings, they also valued the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge. The 20 th meeting of the VPF, hosted at the SA Medical Research Council (SAMRC) in Tshwane on 13 and 14 November 2024, responded by sharing and making sense of new knowledge, research, policy and practice about the prevention of violence. Call for papers: Violence Prevention edition of South African Crime Quarterly.
The South African Crime Quarterly is excited to announce the return to a quarterly publication model in 2025. We invite scholars, practitioners and policymakers to contribute to the upcoming editions. SA Crime Quarterly publishes research articles, case notes on recent court judgements, interviews on topical issues in criminology and public policy, and book reviews.
The September edition is dedicated to theory, research, policy and practice related to the prevention of violence.
We welcome articles that:
- Present the findings from research on interventions, programmes and practices that reduce inter-personal violence
- Explore and critically engage with the theories, assumptions and frameworks applied in the field of violence prevention
- Evaluate or critically reflect on programming, practices and policies to address violence.
This edition locates itself within a growing body of intellectual and policy engagement with violence prevention in the global south.

Survey: UNICEF Global Survey on Arts-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
UNICEF is developing an evidence-informed package of arts-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) interventions to support children in humanitarian and other fragile settings. We are excited to invite you to contribute to this initiative by:
- Responding to a brief survey to capture your experiences and insights on the use of arts-based MHPSS interventions. The survey focuses on identifying current practices, challenges, and areas where further guidance is needed. It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. - Sharing relevant resources. We are seeking:

Funding opportunity: Call for proposals to prevent and combat gender-based violence and violence against children
The European Commission is seeking proposals to prevent and combat gender-based violence and violence against children. It aims to fund projects that:
- support the development of large-scale, long-term actions on tackling gender-based violence, with regranting (giving financial support to third party Civil Society Organisations)
- protect and support victims and survivors of gender-based violence and domestic violence
- prevent gender-based violence, including cyber violence
- make integrated child protection systems work in practice
Closing date: 7 May 2025.
