Welcome to the Violence Prevention Forum newsletter. On a bi-weekly basis we will be sharing job, funding and training opportunities, details for webinars relevant to violence and its prevention, and links to new research and guidelines. We hope you find this a useful resource.

You’re Invited! How creating safe environments prevents violence against children webinar.

Research suggests that projects to create and sustain safe environments can reduce and prevent violence against children. These include interventions in the built environment where children gather and play, and targeted actions in violence hotspots. This is one of the evidence-based strategies in INSPIRE: 7 Strategies to Prevent Violence Against Children. But how do these initiatives work, and what makes them successful? This seminar unpacks lessons learnt from successful intervnetions that build safe environments for children.

 

This webinar will take place on Zoom on the 31st of July, 2024.

Opportunity: Lecturer – training and teaching coordinator

 

The Perinatal Mental Health Project (PMHP) is excited to advertise a new 25 month contracted post of Teaching and Training Co-ordinator at the Perinatal Mental Health Project within the Centre for Public Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. At PMHP, we generate innovative solutions to tackle widespread mental health conditions among antenatal and postpartum women in poor communities. By leveraging cost-effective, evidence-based approaches, we aim to transform cycles of emotional distress and social adversity into cycles of emotional wellbeing and optimal human development. Our five focus areas operate in a mutually reinforcing ways. 

 

Topics of interest would include maternal mental health, empathic engagement, self-care, developing integrated maternal mental health services and Respectful Maternity Care.

 

The closing date for expressions of interest is the 30th of July, 2024.

Online Course: Programming for prevention – a practical approach to design and implementation

This virtual, facilitated course guides participants through the advanced stages of designing and implementing effective violence agaibst women (VAW) prevention programmes. Through interative learning and practical application, partipants will learn about the key steps of a programme journey, the guiding principles of prevention work and the essential elements of sucessful programming. Participantd will also learn to navigate opportunities and constraints to make the best possible decisions for effective programming. The course will be facilitated by the members of the Prevention Collaborative, who bring deep experience in prevention programming design. 

 

Applications close on the 4th of August.

You’re Invited! Child Trauma Conference 2024

Jelly Beanz in collaboration with MOSAIC invites you to the Child Trauma Conference from 17 -18 September. The theme "Healing Generations” focuses on the impact of trauma on current and future generations and finding creative and effective measures to interrupt this cycle of abuse. This conference will take place at Belmont Square Conference Center, Cape Town.
