Webinar: Elections South Africa 2024: What works to prevent mis- and disinformation?

Tales of Turning partnered with the Center for an Informed Public at the University of Washington, and the Media Forensics Hub at Clemson University to conduct a field experiment focused on preventing mis- and disinformation over South Africa’s election period. Join in for this webinar to discuss the research conducted to assess the influence of Tales of Turning’s digital dialogue facilitation methodology in a real-world setting, providing insights into where this approach is most effective. This webinar will take place on the 25th of June, 2024.

Join the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation for the screening of Justice before Healing, a captivating film followed by an insightful engagement led by the Anti-Racism, Social Cohesion & Inclusion Project. Inequities and economic disparity require collective effort and open dialogue. The IJR looks forward to your participation and engagement in exploring ways for promoting justice and healing in our society. The screening will take place at the IJR offices on the 26th of June.

 

Seminar: Can the South African Police Service really keep us safe?

 

The track record of the South African Police Service (SAPS) has measurably declined since 2012. The country’s new administration has an opportunity to reverse these alarming trends. Practical changes in five areas of policing could reverse the negative safety trajectory. This seminar presents the Institute for Security Studies’ evidence-based recommendations. This event is part of the Driving Justice Series: Transforming Systems and Empowering Communities. This event will take place both online and in person on the 27th of June, 2024.

Resource: Ending corporal punishment in the child justice system: legal and human rights approaches 

 

As of May 2024, 66 states worldwide have banned corporal punishment of children in all settings of their lives, including in the home. Moreover, at least 27 other states have expressed a commitment to enacting full prohibition.2

Despite this progress, many children around the world have been left behind. This briefing highlights the human rights imperative to prohibit – and eliminate - all violent punishment of children in the child justice systems.  

 

 

Survey: Gender Equality in and through Education Survey

The Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education (FemNet4GTE) is a powerful and growing intergenerational movement of over 120 organizations, experts and government representatives for gender equality in and through education, hosted by UNGEI.  The Network is establishing regional collectives to develop regional declarations for gender-transformative education. The declarations will be the foundation of the Network’s advocacy, programmatic and policy objectives moving forward. This survey will inform the development of the declaration for Africa. Those taking part may be invited to join the Community of Practice on gender-transformative education.
